Fox Planning GUYS AND DOLLS Remake; Channing Tatum & Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Star?

GUYS AND DOLLS is finally heading back to the big screen.

According to Deadline, Fox has landed the rights to the classic musical, and though no writer or director is attached to the project, execs reportedly have their eyes on Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to take on the original roles made famous by Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando.

The site reports that sources have revealed that production on the much-anticipated remake will begin in the coming months.

Packed with such classic hits as "Fugue for Tinhorns," "A Bushel and a Peck," "Adelaide's Lament," "I'll Know," "Guys and Dolls," "More I Cannot Wish You," "Luck Be A Lady," and "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat," Guys and Dolls features music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. Based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure," two short stories by Damon Runyon, it also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably "Pick the Winner".

Guys and Dolls opened on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre on November 24th, 1950 and won the 1951 Tony Award for Best Musical. Running for 1,200 performances, it featured Robert Alda, Vivian Blaine, Isabel Bigley and Sam Levene as its leads. Based on the stories of Damon Runyon, Guys and Dolls features a score by Loesser and a book by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling. There have been 3 Broadway revivals, and a 1955 film starred Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, and Jean Simmons.

The 2009 Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls starred Oliver Platt ("Nathan Detroit"), Lauren Graham ("Miss Adelaide"), Craig Bierko ("Sky Masterson") and Kate Jennings Grant ("Sarah Brown"). The first joint Broadway project by two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff and choreographerSergio Trujillo since their collaboration on the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys,Guys and Dolls began previews on February 5, 2009 at Broadway's newly refurbished Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street).
