Rootless is a new site-specific, traveling, outdoor play about home, heritage, and what it means to be caught in between the two. Rootless is currently in production for a fully-realized production in Wagner Park June 3 and 17, 2017. Written by Sara Lyons and directed by Graydon Gund, performances each day are free and take place at 1 pm and 3 pm.

Rootless follows Jenny on her journey to find what she’s lost. When her late grandmother’s comb is stolen from her by some reckless boys, her friend Murray jumps in to help her find her comb, her roots, and herself. Dance, music, and the magic of our surroundings carry us with her on a site-specific journey to meet an exciting ensemble of characters, including a mysterious woman who’s always just out of reach. Who is she, and what does she hold in store for Jenny? Join us to find out!

The seeds of Rootless lie planted in "I'll Tell Me Ma," an old Irish song that has captured the minds of generations. Our show pulls directly and indirectly from its lyrics and its lilting tune, in character naming and in secondary plot structure, mythologizing the song. Through it, we can experience the pull of the past and the push forward that help define the reality of life as a young, second-generation American searching for home.
