The Drowsy Chaperone star Sutton Foster was recently profiled on NY-1's "New Yorker of the Week," and the segment is available for online viewing.
"She is one of Broadway's most treasured talents, currently starring in the hit musical The Drowsy Chaperone. But actress Sutton Foster is not just giving back to theatre-goers who pay to see her on stage, Foster is using another talent to give back to the organization Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS" state press materials.
"I am a big supporter of Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS and I wanted to do something to help support it, and I decided to make Christmas cards," explained Foster. "And I went and met with them, and asked if they would like me to do it. I basically asked if I could do it and they said yes."
With all proceeds going to Broadway Cares, the nation's leading industry-based, not-for-profit AIDS organization, Foster created four Christmas cards, each depicting iconic scenes of the Broadway shows Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and The Drowsy Chaperone."My initial reaction when I first saw Sutton's cards was, we are all snowmen," said actor Troy Britton Johnson. "They're great. Of course, my favorite card is The Drowsy Chaperone card because it's near to my heart, but it's just so clever how she did it."
"I just admire her," said actress and co-worker, Beth Leavel. "I admire her beauty, her inner beauty, her talent, her grace, her wisdom, her artistry, her generosity, and her spirit. I just think she's the real deal."
"I think that one of the wonderful things about Sutton is that New York and the Broadway community, but more so New York, has embraced her as one of their own and so she tries to give back by doing benefits and creating these cards," added Johnson. "So I couldn't think of a more wonderful candidate to represent Broadway and New York."
