The current New York edition of Gerard Alessandrini's Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening
will take its Annual Spring Hiatus from Off-Broadway's 47th Street
Theatre beginning Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Forbidden Broadway
will resume performances in New York on June 28, 2008.
Under the terms of its rental agreement, Forbidden Broadway must
vacate the 47th Street Theatre each spring to allow The Puerto Rican
Traveling Theatre to play its season. During this time, Forbidden Broadway
will play a limited run at The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing
Arts in Miami (1300 Biscayne Boulevard) starring the New York
cast. Performances in Miami begin March 25, 2008. During
last year's hiatus, the show played an extended year-long run at
Chicago's Royal George Theatre Center.
Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening first
previewed on September 4, 2007, and officially opened on October 2,
2007, to rave reviews. "The laughs come at breakneck speed! The jokes
fly by so fast, you'll wish you could hit rewind! An immensely talented
and uniquely hilarious cast!" - proclaimed Julie Read of The Associated
Press. In October, 2006, Forbidden Broadway and its creator received
the 2006 Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre.
