Dennis Stroughmatt et l'Esprit Creole in concert presented by the Folk Music Society of NY, Thursday 10 March; 7:30pm.

Join us for an exuberant evening of Creole tunes with Dennis Stroughmatt et l'Esprit Creole, not from Louisiana, not from Arcadia, a band upholding the tradition from midway between, in the Midwest. We are thrilled to bring them to NYC! The concert is at the OSA Hall, 220 E 23 St., 7th floor, between 2nd & 3rd Aves in Manhattan. Contribution: $20 general public; $18 Folk Music Society of NY members. Note the start time of 7:30, doors open at 7:00pm.

Fingers and bow flying, Dennis Stroughmatt takes listeners on a musical odyssey into Upper Louisiana Creole culture. Taught to play fiddle by local Creole fiddlers living along the Mississippi River, Dennis is now the authority on this regional pocket of American antiquity. A vibrant blend of Celtic, Canadian and Old Time sounds, this unique music bridges gaps between contemporary Canadian and Louisiana Cajun styles. Preserved by families in the Ozark foothills, the music remains largely intact, true to the traditions passed down over three centuries.

Dennis is accompanied by Doug Hawf, a lifelong musician and a wizard of stringed instruments. Doug also performs with his family bluegrass band as well as the Vincennes University String Ensemble. He also shares the joy of music through his music store and with his many students.
