Flushing Town Hall to Open Newly Renovated Garden, 7/11

Flushing Town Hall will celebrate the opening of its newly-renovated Garden and Portico with a ribbon cutting Ceremony on July 11, 2013, at 12:00 noon.

Nothing says summer like spending time in the great outdoors. Whether you want to soak in the sun, listen to live music, or just relax under a tree with a good book, now you don't have to go far. Flushing Town Hall's newly renovated outdoor space is the perfect place to be. In addition to a plush green landscape, we've done a wonderful job of preserving many of the original features of the garden including the revitalization of the concrete portico. Visitors can also enjoy newly installed seating and the disappearing pool.

"Because of generous support of our funders, we are ecstatic to be able to re-open our garden", says Ellen Kodadek, Executive and Artistic Director of Flushing Town Hall. "Now, not only will Flushing Town Hall be synonymous with great affordable programming, but now visitors of all ages can enjoy our newly renovated green space right in the heart of Flushing."

In addition to hosting indoor events throughout the year, Flushing Town Hall will now offer a host of outdoor events this summer including a Garden Concert series, free yoga classes and more.

This Capital project was generously funded by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, and the Queens Delegation to the New York City Council, designed by Architect Peter Locascio, and managed by the New York City Department of Design and Construction. The Ribbon-cutting will be led by DCA Commissioner Kate Levin and Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, along with members of the Queens Delegation, other Elected Officials, and members of the Board of Directors of Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts.

Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA) was founded in 1979 to be a revitalizing force for its community, and a creative catalyst for developing and promoting the arts throughout the Borough of Queens, the most culturally diverse county in the United States. FCCA restored, operates and programs historic Flushing Town Hall (circa 1862) as a multi arts center (on behalf of New York City, which owns the building) and provides services to artists, arts organizations and educational institutions, borough-wide.
