Flushing Town Hall Presents The Peruvian Brass Band La Patronal Image

On Friday, September 14, Flushing Town Hall presents La Patronal, a unique brass band from Lima, Peru. Their music is rooted in the tradition of 'fiestas populares,' or town fairs common in rural villages across Latin America. The new season cocktail reception and launch party precedes the show, starting at 6 PM.

The band members are direct descendants of rural musicians from Peru and they use this knowledge of folk culture in combination with their formal music studies to preserve their heritage. La Patronal seamlessly fuses an organic background in traditional music with urban influence. Their lively performances encourage audience participation and dancing with contagious percussion and vibrant brass and winds.

La Patronal brings their performances to life by incorporating visual aspects of 'fiestas populares,' including masks and traditional dance. Audience members will have the chance to join in by learning some moves in a pre-concert dance lesson. Watch a performance from La Patronal here.

Prior to the show, join Flushing Town Hall for the Season Launch Party from 6 to 7 PM. The cocktail reception is free for those with tickets to the 8 PM concert. Other upcoming season highlights include Inner Mongolia Arts Group (Sept 15), Banda Magda (Sept 21), South American Mash-Up: Inkhay & Río Mira (Oct 19), Paquito D'Rivera & John di Martino Trio (Oct 26), Light & Beat: Art of Korean Drumming (Nov 9), Diwali Festival: Kathak, Bhangra, & Beyond (Nov 10), NEA Jazz Masters (Nov 16), FEI Music: A Fusion Music Concert (Dec 2), The Rainbow Fish by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia (Dec 8) and a Winter Holiday Weekend (Dec 8-10).

The La Patronal show celebrates the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), which recognizes the histories, cultures, and contributions of people from Spain, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

Tickets are $16/$10 for members and students, and can be purchased at www.flushingtownhall.org or by calling (718) 463-7700 x222.
