Internationally heralded stage and screen superstar Geoffrey Rush features alongside Emily Watson and newcomer Sophie Nelisse in a new film adaptation of the best-selling children's book by Markus Zusak, THE BOOK THIEF, and the first look at the highly anticipated page-to-screen adaptation has at last been revealed via an attractive new trailer.
The official synopsis of THE BOOK THIEF is as follows: "While subjected to the horrors of WWII Germany, young Liesel (Nelisse) finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. Under the stairs in her home, a Jewish refuge is being sheltered by her adoptive parents."
The film is directed by DOWNTON ABBEY's Brian Percival, from a screenplay by Michael Petroni.
Of note, Watson recently appeared in the screen version of War Horse as well as in Neil LaBute's film adaptation of his own play SOME GIRL(S).
Academy Award, Tony Award and Emmy Award recipient Rush is noted for his string of stage and screen successes around the world in a wide range of roles, from his work onscreen in SHINE, THE KING'S SPEECH and the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN films through to his decades of stage work on Broadway and abroad, most recently in EXIT THE KING and DIARY OF A MADMAN in New York as well as Australian mountings of A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM and THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, respectively.
THE BOOK THIEF is set to be released November 15.
