Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett will open the Governor's Residence and gardens to the public as part of the third annual Arts in the Garden open house today, June 9. The event will kick off the free, monthly "Second Sunday" events being held throughout the summer.

Arts in the Garden will showcase vocal, instrumental and dance performances by Central Pennsylvania artists and arts organizations. Visitors can explore the Susquehanna Art Museum VanGo! Museum on Wheels and observe artists painting plein air throughout the gardens.

"I am excited to welcome visitors back to the Governor's Residence for this annual celebration of the arts," Mrs. Corbett said. "Arts in the Garden provides a unique opportunity for Pennsylvanians to learn about the history of the Residence while enjoying performances by some of Central Pennsylvania's most talented artists."

Participating organizations include the Art Association of Harrisburg; Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz; Gents Nite Out Barbershop Quartet; Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestra; McGinley School of Irish Dance; Open Stage of Harrisburg; Susquehanna Art Museum; and the Susquehanna Flute Trio.

Internationally acclaimed artist Lee Steadman, whose art exhibition "Quiet Pennsylvania" is currently on display at the Governor's Residence, will be on hand to speak with visitors about his work.

Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Dauphin County will volunteer their time to offer expertise on care for roses and rose relatives.

Each second Sunday through September, visitors are invited to explore the Governor's Residence gardens from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Each event will highlight a specific theme and feature outdoor, family-friendly activities.
