Variety is reporting that Will Ferrell's George W. Bush Broadway satire, Your'e Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush captured the biggest audience for any HBO special since 2004.
Debuting Saturday, "You're Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush" was seen by a same-day audience of 2.3 million viewers, the largest audience for an HBO comedy special since the bow of "Chris Rock: Never Scared" in April 2004.
There is also a very funny clip from the HBO comedy special on the Huffington Post where Rick Kaplan, executive producer of "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" and the former head of CNN and MSNBC, was called on in the audience participation segment of Ferrell's show. You're Welcome America. A Final Night with George W Bush, broken records even in its first month of performances, the show smashed a Cort Theatre house record - taking in $871,127 for the week ending on February 22ND. This broke the house record set during the previous week, with an increase of almost $25,000.
You're Welcome America... concluded its Broadway run on March 15th at 7pm. It played 18 previews and 46 regular performances. The hit comedy has also recouped its original investment of $2.09 million.
