This year's shows - four memorable productions ...
The new season opens with the Mitch Albom play, "And the Winner Is." The show, which runs from October 2nd to October 17th, is a poignant comedy about discovering the things in life that are truly important. Laughter and life lessons abound in this celebration of life, death and a night at the Oscars.
In November, the season continues with the classic holiday story, "Miracle on 34th Street," continuing a "Barn" tradition of family-oriented seasonal fare, timed for the holidays. While most are familiar with the movie, the stage adaptation of "Miracle" is relatively new, putting a fresh theatrical spin on a holiday favorite - running from November 20th - December 13th.
This winter, The Players return with one of the most enduring comedies ever, the George Kaufman/Moss Hart favorite, "You Can't Take it With You." This Pulitzer-Prize winning show presents the hilarious sequence of events that transpires when two very different families come together for the marriage of their respective son and daughter. February 12th - March 6th.
The four-play season concludes next spring with the traditional Barn musical, this time the Stephen Sondheim/Jule Styne favorite, "Gypsy." Set during the vaudeville era, it is based on the memoirs of the legendary Gypsy Rose Lee and features both a memorable score and equally compelling characters. Shows dates are from April 30th - May 22nd.
Bonus Entertainment at the Barn ...The Barn will also play host to two other special performances in the coming season. First up - a one-night magic show on November 15 (7:00 p.m.), featuring one of the country's top magicians, in town for the annual Motor City Magic convention. Sponsored by McCabe Funeral Home, tickets are just $10 in advance for a family-oriented show combining humor and magic ($12 at door).
Then, on March 19-21, The Players will bring out their Irish spirit with a three-performance, Michigan-premiere of the heartfelt play, "From the Mountains of Mourne," by acclaimed playwright, Lisa Hayes. It's the story of the Irish immigrants that helped make this country great, and combines storytelling, music, drama, and laughter as only a good Irish yarn can. Tickets are just $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
In addition to the website, tickets can be ordered via the Barn's ticket hotline - 248-553-2955. The Farmington Players Barn Theater is located on the north side of 12 Mile Road, halfway between Orchard Lake and Farmington Roads.
