London Theatre Guide reports that the West End will welcome the return of Fame, which will play a limited run beginning on May 4th and opening on May 8th at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

Based on the 1980 film musical about a group of ambitious students at New York's High School of Performing Arts, Fame was staged at Off-Broadway's Little Shubert Theatre from November of 2003 to June of 2004.  The production previously played the West End; it closed in June of last year and then began a tour of the U.K. (its national tour, starring "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria" finalist Abi Finley, will continue during the West End run).

Karen Bruce directs the production, for which no West End casting has been announced.

The stage musical version of Fame features book by Jose Fernandez, lyrics by Jacques Levy and music by Steve Margoshes, with additional material by Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford.

Fame previously played the Cambridge, Aldwych and Prince of Wales Theatres.
