Ghostlight Records, a division of Sh-K-Boom Records, will release the original cast recording of Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me on Tuesday, April 10, 2007. Conceived by Martin Short and Scott Wittman, with book by Martin Short & Daniel Goldfarb (Modern Orthodox), additional material by Alan Zweibel, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman & Marc Shaiman (Hairspray), this musical was directed by Scott Wittman and had its Broadway premiere at Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in August 2006. The CD is produced by Grammy® and Tony Award® winner and five time Oscar nominee Marc Shaiman and Executive Produced by Sh-K-Boom / Ghostlight Records President Kurt Deutsch.
"In the grand tradition of West Side Story and The Lion King comes the next great American musical... but until then, there was Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me. Backed by a versatile troupe of singer/actors and his on-stage music director Marc Shaiman, the smash of a show featured Short in a comic tour de force, where he guided his audiences through an improbable version of his life story in a transparent play for love and attention," state press notes.
"The fractured universe of Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me is revealed in the opening number with the cast of 5 singing about being in a one-man show. Short enters to tell his story, promising to reveal his inner struggles and pain. Even if they're completely fabricated."
The Original Cast Recording features Brooks Ashmanskas, Mary Birdsong, Capathia Jenkins and Nicole Parker, each playing a wide variety of different characters, along with Martin Short.
