Fales Performs Confessions for a Mormon Boy at Dec. 5 Benefit

Steven Fales, author and star of Confessions of a Mormon Boy, will perform the play on Monday, December 5th at Lincoln Center (6 p.m., Mitzi Newhouse Theater, 150 W. 65 St.) at a star-studded benefit for The Point Foundation.

The show will be presented along with a star-studded auction with the goal of raising $50,000 to support The Point Foundation's college scholarship fund for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) students of distinction. The Foundation was recently the focus of a cover story in Time magazine ("The Battle Over Gay Teens," 10/10/05) and featured on the recent Oprah Winfrey show entitled "When I Knew I Was Gay."

"Queer Eye for The Straight Guy"'s Kyan Douglas and Thom Filicia as well as Isabella Rossellini will be among those present for the benefit. The host committee for the benefit will nclude dance icon Mikhail Baryshnikov, Michael Cunningham, author of The Hours, acting couple Judith Light and Robert Desiderio, and designer Isaac Mizrahi, among others.

Focus Features, distributor of the film Brokeback Mountain has also been engaged to participate; the film premiers in early December and stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. Exclusive invitations to the Brokeback Mountain New York premiere and after-party will be auctioned off to benefit The Point Foundation at the December 5th benefit. Brokeback author Annie Proulx, director Ang Lee as well as Ledger and Gyllenhaal, have agreed to partner with Focus and The Point Foundation on this special opportunity.

Tickets are now available for the benefit auction and special presentation of Confessions of a Mormon Boy. Set to open Off-Broadway on February 5th under the direction of Tony Award-winner Jack Hofsiss, Fales' critically acclaimed solo play explores through song, humor, and the Book of Mormon one young man's journey from excommunication, divorce, prostitution, and drugs to self-reclamation. The show begins previews on January 27th.

The mission of The Point Foundation is to provide financial support, mentoring and hope to outstanding students who are marginalized due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. The Point Foundation is the first nationwide LGBT scholarship foundation granting financial assistance to students of distinction. Their work is informed by, and builds upon the efforts of diverse minority communities who have successfully built leaders through access to education.

The Point Foundation offers Prime seating for $1000 per person and Choice seating for $275 per person. Larger gifts are also welcome at the Patron level ($10,000 donation that includes two Prime seats and a full page in the playbill) as well as Sponsor level ($5,000 donation that includes two Choice seats and a half-page in the Playbill).
