Fairest of Them All, a new musical with book, music and lyrics by Tyler M. Phillips, will be presented as part of The York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series Tuesday, September 20 at 7:30pm, in the company's home at 54th and Lexington in Manhattan's Citigroup Center; the reading will be free.

Based on three of the Grimms' fairy tales, Fairest of Them All tells "the interwoven stories of Snow White, the Brave Little Tailor and Doctor Knowall."  According to production notes, "The characters' storybook world is gradually slipping into a crack in the world, leaving them armed with only their strongest traits—which are also their greatest weaknesses."

Directed by Brian Blythe, the musical's cast includes Jenna Uskowitz, Chris Gleim, Patricia Dell, Rob Richardson, Crystal John, Chloe Kayhill and Kevin Wallace, who also serves as the show's musical director.

Tyler Phillips is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and performer.  He is currently attending Northeast School of the Arts, a gifted and talented program in the arts on the campus of Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, Texas.  He is a fourth year instrumental music major. He has had four of his works performed in San Antonio, Texas. Kansas City Serenade - Overture was performed by the NESA Orchestra in 2003, His ballet The Dark Days of Romance was performed by the NESA dance company in 2004 and was a finalist work in the ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer's Competition in 2005. His two-act musical A Way To Love was staged at the Magik Theatre and his one-act song cycle sixteen was performed at the NESA Theatre in 2004.  He is an award-winner, as well, for his work scoring films.  Phillips has also fronted a number of rock bands, and his CD Sugar for Alice was released in 2004.

York's Producing Artistic Director, Jim Morgan, stated, "I think it's safe to say that Tyler is the youngest writer of musical theatre represented in New York City, both on- and off-Broadway and at various festivals.  We're thrilled to be presenting the New York premiere of this exceptionally talented writer.  We are constantly on the lookout for new voices in musical theatre, and, the more young people writing musicals we can encourage, the better off the art form will be in the future.  In the works is a series or festival of musicals by writers 20 and younger."

The York's Developmental Reading Series, which presents over 40 new works annually.  The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), Children's Letters to God and Avenue Q were all first seen as part of the series
