Legendary leading ladies Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, Rita Hayworth and Barbra Streisand are featured in the July Reel 13 schedule. Heading the month is Vincente Minnelli's Father's Little Dividend, the sequel to the 1950 comedy and box office success Father of the Bride.

Following an 18 month break from film beginning in 1933, Greta Garbo made her return to the big screen for Queen Christina. Her role as Christina, Queen of Sweden, became one of her best-loved performances. The next time she took a break from Hollywood, in 1941, she would never return again. The film also marked Garbo's fourth and final film with John Gilbert, who had been her co-star and an intermittent off-screen romantic partner since they worked together on Flesh and the Devil in 1926.

In the film noir Gilda, Rita Hayworth found career-defining success, in her signature role as the ultimate femme fatale. The film was selected for preservation in the United State Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."

The 1968 movie adaptation of the Broadway musical, Funny Girl, sealed Barbra Streisand's rise to superstardom in the 1960's. Streisand was not the automatic first choice for the role of Fanny Brice on stage, with other names including Anne Bancroft, Eydie Gorme, and Carol Burnett first discussed for the role. The film version went on to garner eight Academy Award nominations, including one for "Best Picture." Streisand tied for "Best Actress" with Katharine Hepburn in The Lion in Winter.

The Quitter, Second Coming, Deadfall, Still and What Just Happenedare the month's independent offering.

Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Hollywood Classicfollowed by an Indie, presented by Columbia University professor Richard Peña. The evening concludes with a Short film selected by viewers who vote for their favorite of three shorts at Reel13.org.
