Just announced, four-time Tony Award Nominee Judy Kuhn (Fun Home, She Loves Me, Chess, Les Miserables) will join the cast of Fiddler on the Roof as Golde.
Kuhn will be begin performances on Tuesday, November 22nd and will play through the show's final performance on Saturday, December 31st at 2:00 pm. She takes over the role from Jessica Hecht who is departing the production to prepare for The Price.
Four time Tony Award nominee Judy Kuhn starred on Broadway in the critically acclaimed production of Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron's musical Fun Home directed by Sam Gold which won the 2015 Tony Award for Best Musical. Also on Broadway she starred in The Roundabout's hit revival of She Loves Me, the American premieres of Chessand Les Miserables, Rags as well as Richard Nelson's play Two Shakespearean Actors (Lincoln Center Theatre), Alan Menken & Tim Rice's King David, and the original cast of The Mystery of Edwin Drood (NYSF).
Judy created the role of Helen Bechdel in Fun Home at The Public Theater for which she received a 2014 Lucille Lortel Award. Other recent appearances include The Visit by John Kander, Fred Ebb & Terrance McNally at The Williamstown Theater Festival directed by John Doyle and starring Chita Rivera and Roger Rees. She starred as Fosca in the much lauded production of Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine's Passion directed by John Doyle at the Classic Stage Co. (Drama League Award nomination) and appeared in the inaugural season of Encores! Off-Center in The Cradle Will Rock directed by Sam Gold.Fiddler on the Roof boasts a cast of 40 actors and an orchestra of 23 musicians, was nominated for three 2016 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, Best Choreography (Hofesh Shechter) and Best Actor in a Musical (Danny Burstein). Additionally, Fiddler on the Roof took home two Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Director of a Musical (Bartlett Sher) and Outstanding Actor in a Musical (Danny Burstein). Burstein was also awarded the Outer Critics Circle Award for the Outstanding Actor in a Musical.
Fiddler on the Roof began previews at The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway, at 53rd Street) on November 20, 2015 and officially opened on Sunday, December 20, 2015. Fiddler on the Roof will play its final performance on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. The regular performance schedule is: Tuesdays at 7 PM, Wednesdays at 2 PM and 8 PM, Thursdays at 7 PM. Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2 PM and 8 PM, and Sundays at 3 PM. Fiddler on the Roof has scenic design by Michael Yeargan (Tony Award-nominee, The King and I), costume design by Catherine Zuber (Tony Award-winner, The King and I), lighting design by Donald Holder (Tony Award-nominee, The King and I), sound design by Scott Lehrer (Tony Award-winner, South Pacific), and hair and wig design by Tom Watson.
