Flora Interpretations, an exhibition by abstract and impressionist photographer-artist Michael DeSiano (michaeldesiano.com), is on display at the James Howe Gallery at Kean University, 1000 Morris Avenue in Union, through Friday, October 27. Admission is free and open to the public.

In his photography, mixed media artwork and paintings, DeSiano, a retired associate professor from Kean's Department of Fine Arts, explores natural and cultivated trees and flowers, or flora. "My goal is to create art that is inspiring, meditative and beautiful," said DeSiano, a published writer and advocate for the visual arts.

Flora Interpretations showcases photographs DeSiano took in Italy and the United States as impressionistic and abstract works on canvas. His accompanying blog by the same name is a curated sampling of news posts centering on everything flora--including art, environment, science and fashion. The James Howe Gallery, located on the first floor of the Vaughn Eames building, is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The gallery is wheelchair accessible.
