As reported by BroadwayWorld, the theatre community was saddened this week to learn of the passing of groundbreaking theatre composer, lyricist and director Elizabeth Swados.
It was later announced that her most famous work, the Tony-nominated musical RUNAWAYS, will be given a concert production as part of this summer's Encores! Off-Center season at New York City Center. RUNAWAYS was originally produced by Joseph Papp at The Public Theater and transferred to Broadway in 1978. Aside from theatre, Swados was also a prolific writer of novels and children's books, perhaps the most notable being THE GIRL WITH THE INCREDIBLE FEELING, about staying true to yourself.
