Actress Rita Wilson, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in March which forced her to take a medical leave of absence from her Broadway hit play FISH IN THE DARK, had some happy news to share at yesterday's The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Breakfast presented by Lifetime. PEOPLE reports that the actress shared "I am cancer free. I'm one hundred percent healthy!"
She is also excited about launching her first tour with her band. "I'll start in New York at the Cafe Carlyle for two weeks on February 23rd," she tells PEOPLE. "Then I have a couple weeks off, and then I start again at the end of March. I'll go through all the April and part of May. It's going to be hilarious. Me on a tour bus with my band members!"
She went on to share her gratitude for being able to perform in good health for audiences across the country. "I feel really blessed and very lucky," she says, adding, "Part of the reason for going on tour is that I want to show people that you can have cancer, and you can still be out there doing what you love to do, and it's not a death sentence like it used to be."
Wilson starred in such films as It's Complicated, and Sleepless in Seattle, and has had recurring roles on CBS' The Good Wife and HBO's Golden Globe winning series Girls). She is also a film producer and discovered and produced My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Wilson released her critically acclaimed debut album AM/FM - an intimate, elegant, and beautifully sung collection of classics from the '60s and '70s in 2012. Her second studio album self-titled Rita Wilson featuring a collection of original songs that she co-wrote, will be released in early 2016.
