BroadwayWorld has learned that Broadway and musical theater veteran, James Stovall died yesterday, September 26. Cause of death and age are unavailable at this time, but it has been reported that Stovall suffered from heart problems.
Stovall most recently appeared in the 2009 revival of FINIAN'S RAINBOW. Other Broadway credits include THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (2000), RAGTIME (1998), THE LIFE (1997), ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (1990), SWEET CHARITY (1986) and BIG DEAL (1986). Stovall and famed choreographer, Bob Fosse became friends working on Fosse's BIG DEAL.
As a writer and producer, Stovall revisited Langston Hughes' BLACK NATIVITY (his first directing project). The production was a success, earning five Audelco awards including Best Direction and Best Musical of the 1990-1991 season.
