FIDM's campuses donated more than 3,700 pairs of jeans and denim to Cotton Incorporated's college-based denim recycling drive, which was recently held at all four FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising campuses in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County, and San Diego. True Religion made a massive contribution of jeans and denim scrap at the L.A. campus, which had assembled 1,990 pairs of jeans and 4,348 pounds of denim and scraps. San Francisco donated 200 pairs, Orange County contributed 1,600 pairs of jeans, and San Diego donated 70 pairs.

The Cotton From Blue to Green program, which recycles denim into residential insulation for needy communities, encouraged students at the fashion college to "Drop Your Jeans for a Good Cause." Since the recycling effort began in 2006, more than 1.7 million square-feet of insulation has been made from nearly 850,000 pieces of denim.

The eco-friendly initiative educates college students about the natural, renewable, and recyclable attributes of denim. The denim drive gives the material new life by converting it into UltraTouch Denim Insulation, which is composed of 85 percent recycled cotton fibers and without carcinogenic warnings or chemical irritants. The Cotton From Blue to Green program is now collecting all types of denim through the mail (limited to 100 pieces of denim per parcel). You may learn more at cottonfrombluetogreen.org.
