Last week, New York's musical theatre lovers enjoyed City Center Encores!'s modern-dress take on Peter Stone and Sherman Edwards classic revolutionary musical 1776, which, without updating the text, matched the 18th Century characters with modern day representations.

So if 1776 can do it, why not another historical classic like Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE KING AND I. A talented aspiring animator whose work can be seen on Tumblr as meglikestodraw came up with these fabulous contemporary interpretations of the gang from 19th Century Siam.

The sharply-attired King is obviously a proud poppa. He's followed by an Anna toting her laptop, hipster couple Lun Tha and Tuptim, a preppy Prince Chulalongkorn and a very chic Lady Thiang.

The King is back! Tony nominee Ken Watanabe just returned to The King and I, where he will play the King of Siam through April 17. 3-time Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie will assume the role of Anna Leonowens beginning Tuesday, May 3. Mazzie will play her first performance in THE KING AND I on the same night that Daniel Dae Kim makes his Broadway debut as The King of Siam.

Winner of four 2015 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, Lincoln Center Theater's production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I boasts a cast of 51 starring Kelli O'Hara (Tony Award winner - Best Actress in a Musical) as Anna Leonowens and featuring Ruthie Ann Miles (Tony Award winner - Best Featured Actress in a Musical) as Lady Thiang, Ashley Park (as Tuptim), Conrad Ricamora (as Lun Tha), Edward Baker-Duly (as Sir Edward Ramsey), Jon Viktor Corpuz (as Prince Chulalongkorn), Paul Nakauchi (as Kralahome), Marc Oka (as Phra Alack),Rocco Sisto (as Captain Orton), and Nicky Torchia (as Louis).
