Madison Square Park Conservancy today announced Fall Kids Fest 2014, a day of free outdoor fun for children taking place in Madison Square Park on Saturday, October 18 from 11am-2pm.
Fall Kids Fest will feature various festival stations for participants to experience a wide variety of interactive and entertaining activities throughout the park.
ENTERTAINMENT
Kids and parents can sing and dance to performances by Songs for Seeds and sets from DJ KC Anderson of Brunch Baby, Brunch, with more performances to be announced.
MOVIES
Movie enthusiasts can try their hands at filmmaking with New York Int'l Children's Film Festival and The Good School using professional grade software, DragonFrame Stop Motion. Characters from Penguins of Madagascar will be on hand in anticipation of the DreamWorks Animation movie hitting theaters this November. Automatic Studios will also be onsite to present an interactive activity.
READING
Madison Square Park Conservancy will host a reading corner as a part of the Mad. Sq. Kids Reading Rangers program where children can sit and read books that were featured during the summer series. Additionally, Books of Wonder will host a story time session and crayon-related activities featuring The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers, DiMenna Children's History Museum will bring a train-themed reading along with a craft, and Macmillan Children's Publishing Group will be on site featuring one of their latest books.
ART
To get a taste of art in New York City, kids can participate in projects with The Rubin Museum of Art and construction activities and sensory tables from Apple Seeds' popular class - build it! break it! fix it!. The Little Orchestra Society is shaking up the art tent with egg shakers.
GAMES
A variety of games for all ages will take place at the festival including soccer tennis with the Downtown United Soccer Club, a fitness class for parents with Moms in Training, Sesame Street Box Heads, a tablet game for kids, organized by Gigantic Mechanic, a gaga pit courtesy of Gate Hill Day Camp and more fun with our friends at Lego.
GARDEN STOP
The Horticulture Society of New York will educate children on "green" issues in the city through a hands-on activity, while the Madison Square Park Conservancy will present a leaf identification project through the M.U.C.K (Madison Urban Club for Kids) program.
EATS
Melt Bakery, New York's first ice cream sandwich store, will be bringing a variety of ice cream sandwiches to the festival. Hill Country Barbecue Market will sample their famous cookies and brownies.
MORE ACTIVITIES
Kids will have the opportunity to put their minds to work through a tabletop puzzle activity from NIKOLI Co., Ltd. and an activity from the Liberty Science Center's latest exhibit, Beyond Rubik's Cube. Fall Kids Fest will also feature a pumpkin patch with a decoration station, face painting, a costume swap, as well as a Costume Parade led by the Big Apple Circus.
Fall Kids Fest 2014 takes place at Madison Square Park, rain or shine, at 23rd Street between Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenues. This free event is presented by the Madison Square Park Conservancy and sponsored by New York Life, New York Family Magazine, Lego, Apple Seeds, Hill Country Barbecue Market and Ruby Rocket's.
