FABnyc Hosts 10th Annual FAB! Festival Today

FABnyc presents its 10th annual FAB! Festival, taking place today, September 28, 2013 from 1-5PM on East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery.

This one-day-only arts explosion features FREE performances and exhibits that promise fun for all ages. Attendees can sample tasty bites from local food vendors while enjoying dance, theater, and music by artists from across the Lower East Side (and beyond!). All performances will take place across numerous indoor and outdoor stages and sites on East 4th Street.

FABnyc's cultural and community partners will also be on-site to provide information about locAl Greening efforts, recycling, and artist resource sharing opportunities, in addition to hosting an array of hands-on arts activities and workshop that will intrigue and inspire participants. A community favorite, the 10th annual FAB! Festival offers more culture per square foot that at any other festival in NYC!

INSPIRING AND EMPOWERING PERFORMANCES, OUTSIDE AND IN

FABnyc's intimate indoor stage and two outdoor stages on East 4th Street will showcase everything from cutting edge experimental theater to performances by youth artists. In addition performance from La Mama E.T.C., Nuyorican Poets Café, and WOW Café Theatre, the festival lineup will include:

The CityKids Foundation, presenting Stand Up, a combination of music, dance, and spoken word lead by urban teens to inspire New Yorkers to let the voices be heard on important matters.

Downtown Art's all female singing group, The Bowery Birds, performing excerpts from The Waistmakers' Opera.

Slash Coleman, reading from a chapter from his new book,The Bohemian Love Diaries, an irresistibly weird and wonderful story chronicling Coleman's upbringing in a household of eccentric artists.

GETTING DOWN ON THE DANCE BLOCK

Choreographers from across NYC come together to celebrate movement and culture by presenting innovative dance at the FAB! Festival. Dance showcases also include new works created and fostered in FABnyc's Dance Block program, a service that helps dancers connect to low-cost rehearsal space on East 4th Street. Along with performances by Rod Rodgers Dance Company, East Village Dance Project, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, Krista Jansen, and many others, the lineup will feature:

Jason Garcia Ignacio's Ink Spilled in Cursive, a visual art and dance fusion that was based on the poem "The Little Mute Boy" by Federico Garcia Lorca, featuring choreography as a mechanism for painting.

Buggé Ballet, a FAB! Festival favorite from last year, performing Fascination, a work about a romance between two lovers that evolves from awkwardness to a smooth and graceful dance.

SURPRISING SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCES AT EVERY TURN

The FAB! Festival will pack as many performances into one city block as possible, including surprising site specific and guerrilla-style performances that take place on the street and in unexpected places within nooks and crannies of the East 4th. Street. Performances will include:

Bond Street Theater Group, taking the block by storm with their Shinbone Alley Stilt Band, a group of musicians who play a repertoire of Dixieland, Swing, Rock, Jazz, and Blues tunes, while simultaneously performing mind boggling dance routines on stilts.

The Movement Party and Friends, performing unique site specific works, originally choreographed to the pulsing rhythms of ocean in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and reimagined for the urban hustle and bustle of East 4th Street.

CONTINUED COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE CULTURE

With a strong commitment to sustainable culture, FABnyc aims to reduce waste at the FAB! Festival and ensure 100% of waste is appropriately reused, recycled or disposed of by providing proper receptacles on site before, during, and after the event.
