Extensis announced today it will present "The Art of Preserving Digital Objects" at global museum events, kicking off in late April at the American Alliance of Museums Annual Expo in Atlanta, GA and following will exhibit at the Museums + Heritage Event in London. Extensis will demonstrate how institutions in the heritage and culture sector can preserve, manage and share their collections with Extensis Portfolio.

As museums, galleries, and cultural heritage organizations continue to digitize their collections, there is a growing need for systems that can manage this content. Extensis will share how some of the world's most prestigious museums use Digital Asset Management (DAM) to not only manage their collection objects, but also how Portfolio integrates with Collection Management Systems (CMS) using an open Application Programming Interface (API) to create an effective and comprehensive collection management solution.

Examples include:

  • The Courtauld Institute of Art, who shared how they integrated Portfolio with zetcom's CMS, MuseumPlus, in a Webcast.
  • The Fitzwilliam Museum at the University of Cambridge, who completed a successful integration between Portfolio their museum CMS, Adlib Information Systems, using Portfolio's API.
  • The National Trust for Scotland, who also recently shared how they used DAM to conserve and promote the nation's cultural heritage in a Webcast.

About Extensis Digital Asset Management Solution: Portfolio
Extensis Portfolio is a DAM system that helps organizations find, manage, and convert the digital assets associated with their collection objects. The system is quick to setup, easy to use, and includes an open API which allows customers to integrate DAM with other business systems, such as a Collection Management Systems. Portfolio also supports the SPECTRUM Standard and VRA Core, two key industry standards designed to make working with metadata easier for museums and cultural heritage institutions.

Collection Management Systems work well for managing object information from a curatorial perspective but may not provide tools specifically designed for managing digital asset content. Digital Asset Management Systems help museums, galleries, and cultural heritage organizations manage digital assets such as photographs of collection objects. By combining DAMS with CMS, institutions can provide an efficient and comprehensive collection information solution.

Extensis has a prestigious list of global heritage and cultural customers who use Portfolio, which includes the Courtauld Institute for Art (London), The National Gallery of Art (Washington D.C.), The American Museum of Natural History (New York), The Deutsches Schiffahtrsmuseum (Bremerhaven), The Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki), The National Trust for Scotland (Edinburgh), The National Museum of Ireland (Dublin), The Henry Moore Foundation, (Perry Green), and the Bodleian Library (Oxford).

Extensis also offers special academic pricing on Portfolio for museums, educational institutions, registered charities and non-profit organizations.
