Experimental Oyster Reef Launches at Soundview Park 10/28

On October 28 at Soundview Park in the Bronx, a partnership of scientists, government agencies, and non?profit groups will begin the first phase of an ambitious research project to determine if it is possible to restore oysters and oyster reefs to NY Harbor.

Project partners, including Hudson River Foundation, NY/NJ Baykeeper, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation Natural Resources Group, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, NY/NJ Harbor Estuary Program, Urban Assembly New York Harbor School, Bronx River Alliance, Rocking the Boat, Wildlife Conservation Society and NOAA Restoration Center, will discuss the research project and its importance to the region. Project partners will place a live oyster on a rock andma shell base recently constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the shallow waters off of SoundView Park near the mouth of the Bronx River.

To view from shore, use Lafayette and Morrison Ave. entrance to Soundview Park. Vehicles will be
escorted through the gate to the project site at 8:30. Vehicles will be escorted back to the gate
at 10:00. To view from boats: The boat will leave from dock at Hunts Point Riverside Park at 8:30 and return to the Dock at 10:00. Parking is available at the Park. Entrance is at Edgewater Rd and
Lafayette Ave.
