Over the past year, the program has impacted over 10,000 students.
Situation Project announced its June fundraising campaign earlier this month, aimed at expanding arts education opportunities for students across the NY region. Over the past year, the program has impacted over 10,000 students, giving students unprecedented access to the New York arts and entertainment industry, providing professional development opportunities, and decreasing the cultural experience gap.
Executive Director Samara Berger emphasized the significance of this campaign, noting, "Arts education is not just a supplementary part of learning; it is essential. It cultivates creativity, critical thinking, and empathy, equipping students with the skills they need to navigate and contribute to the modern world."
Situation Project has a proven track record of enriching the lives of students through its comprehensive arts education programs. In 2023 alone, the organization executed over 33 events to engage 10,377 students across the state of New York. These events ranged from a student-exclusive performance of TOPDOG/UNDERDOG on Broadway with a talkback led by the stars, to middle and high school career days, to college and museum tours.

These initiatives have not only provided exposure to various art forms but have also been instrumental in improving academic performance, enhancing social skills, and promoting cultural awareness. Studies show that students with arts education scored 15% higher in standardized writing tests and had a 20% higher likelihood of graduating from high school.
"By supporting our June fundraising campaign, donors are directly contributing to the future success of these young individuals," Berger added. "Our goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has access to high-quality arts education. This campaign will help us reach even more students and continue to make a lasting impact in their lives."
Over the course of its 13-year history, Situation Project has facilitated numerous workshops, performances, and interactive sessions with artists, enabling students to explore their creative potential. The positive feedback from students and educators alike underscores the importance of such programs in today's educational landscape.
One of the standout achievements has been the integration of arts education into the broader curriculum through education initiatives like their partnership with Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch, demonstrating how the arts can complement and enhance traditional subjects. "We've seen firsthand how exposure to the arts can inspire students to excel in all areas of their education," said Berger. "This holistic approach to learning prepares them for a more dynamic and interconnected world."

As Situation Project embarks on this fundraising campaign, it calls on the community, philanthropists, and arts enthusiasts to join in this crucial effort. The funds raised will be dedicated to expanding program offerings, increasing student participation, and ensuring the sustainability of arts education initiatives. This kind of support is imperative, especially in the summer months when formal DOE programming is limited, to continue providing enriching experiences for students.
"The impact of arts education extends far beyond the classroom," Berger concluded. "It shapes individuals who are more innovative, more empathetic, and more engaged in their communities. By supporting our campaign, donors are investing in the future leaders, thinkers, and creators of our society."
