Exclusive Podcast: 'Something New' Revisits Mini-Musical RSVP for Pride Month  ImageIn honor of NYC Pride, Joel is re-airing "RSVP," his original musical about a closeted science fiction writer, set in the 1970s.

"RSVP" - a chamber musical. Book, Music, and Lyrics by Joel B. New. Directed by Lori Wolter Hudson. Cast: Greg Etling as "Michael Walker," Jenny Neale as "Susan," Scott Guthrie as "The Stranger." "RSVP" was recorded live at Ripley-Grier Studios in NYC on March 16, 2013. Sound design by Emily Auciello.

About The Piece: "RSVP" takes place in Middle America in the early 1970's. To be specific, this is the morning of Michael and Susan's wedding. Michael is a nonfiction writer by trade, but on this morning - when he should be getting ready for the ceremony - he finds himself fixated on his first attempt at fiction. Writing what he knows, Michael Creates the protagonist in his own image. However, when his fictional self is confronted with a familiar stranger from the future, the real Michael is unprepared to face some facts.

Joel B. New is the recipient of an American Theatre Wing Jonathan Larson Grant for his music and lyrics. His stage projects include TO HELL AND BACK, MACKENZIE & THE MISSING BOY, AWAKENING (book: Jenny Stafford, music: J. Oconer Navarro), STANDALONE, AGATHA IN THE ATTIC, and RSVP. Joel's work has been seen and developed at Ars Nova, Lincoln Center, 54 Below, New York Theatre Barn, Prospect Theater Company, Musical Theatre Factory, and the 2015 New York Musical Theatre Festival. He is currently in pre-production for his solo EP Cabot Cove, a collection of songs inspired by book titles referenced to in the TV series Murder, She Wrote, starring Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury.
