From August 5th to September 11th, Eden Espinosa will return to the role of Elphaba in the national tour of Wicked. The star, late of Brooklyn, will temporarily replace Stephanie J. Block during the San Francisco stretch of the tour.

Block (The Boy from Oz) is playing a limited schedule of performances on doctors' orders. Earlier this year, Block was injured during Wicked dress rehearsals, shortly before the tour kicked off in Toronto. She is tentatively scheduled to return to Wicked on September 16th, when the tour blows into Denver.

Espinosa, who was nominated for a 2005 Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance for playing the title role in Brooklyn, previously stood by as Elphaba on Broadway, going on for Idina Menzel numerous times. Regionally, she has appeared in Triumph of Love, and can be heard on the concept album of Bright Lights, Big City, on The Maury Yeston Songbook and on John McDaniel Live at Joe's Pub.

Wicked's tour will circle the country until September of next year, with stops still planned for
Houston, Washington D.C, Philadelphia, Boston, San Diego and about 15 other cities. The tour cast of Wicked currently includes Kendra Kassebaum (Glinda), Derrick Williams (Fiyero), Carol Kane (Madame Morrible), David Garrison (The Wizard), Jenna Leigh Green (Nessarose), Logan Lipton (Boq), and Timothy Britten Parker (Dr. Dillamond).

Meanwhile, Shoshana Bean (Elphaba), Megan Hilty (Glinda), Ben Vereen (The Wizard) and Rue McClanahan (Madame Morrible) headline the show's Broadway production, and Ana Gasteyer will open as Elphaba in a sit-down Wicked in Chicago tonight.
