MCC Theater has announced that Emmy Award Winner Eric McCormack ("Will & Grace") will star in the U.S. premiere of the stage play Some Girl(s) by Neil LaBute. He joins previously-announced "ER" star Maura Tierney, who will play Bobbi, in the play. The strictly limited engagement of Some Girl(s) will
begin preview performances on Wednesday, May 17th and continue through
Saturday, June 24 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher
Street, NYC). Opening night is set for Thursday, June 8, 7PM.
Some Girl(s) reunites LaBute with director Jo Bonney, who helmed MCC's critically-acclaimed, sold-out run of Fat Pig last season. "Set in four different city hotel rooms (Seattle, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles), Some Girl(s) follows a soon-to-be-engaged man as he pays a last visit to four ex-girlfriends before taking the plunge. Casting is underway for the ensemble cast which includes the roles of the other three ex-girlfriends, Sam, Tyler and Lindsay. McCormack created the role of Will Truman in the 1998 NBC pilot "Will & Grace." In eight successful seasons, he has been nominated for five Golden Globes and four Emmys, winning as Lead Actor in a Comedy in 2001; the series finale will air on May 18, 2006. He last appeared on Broadway in 2001; he starred as Harold Hill in
Susan Stroman's acclaimed production of
The Music Man. He has also been featured on Broadway in
The Play What I Wrote. He can next be seen in the upcoming independent film
The Sisters (opening in Los Angeles and New York, April 14), for which he received Best Actor at Atlanta's 2005 Dixie Film Festival. McCormack will make his feature film directorial debut with his own script
What You Wish For later this year. Born in Toronto, Canada, he has appeared in productions at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival, as well as in
Biloxi Blues, Salt Water Moon, Burn This, and
The Passion of Dracula. Other TV credits include "Ally McBeal," "Veronica's Closet;" he also played Col. Clay Mosby for two years on the popular syndicated series "Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years." He also recently began a secondary career as a television producer.
The London production of Some Girl(s) performed
at the Gielgud Theatre and starred David Schwimmer as 'Man;' it ran
from May 12th through August 13th, 2005.
