On November 9, just a head of Veteran's Day, Staten Island Author Dolores N. Morris will host a dog-friendly talk with local Veterans at the SSG Michael Ollis VFW Post, 575 Mill Road, Oakwood, from 2 to 4 PM. In addition to the author reading and talk, Louie's Legacy will host an adoption event.
Her book, "The Soldier That Wagged Her Tail," is a delightful telling of a young black soldier's experiences in World War II, told from his perspective as well as that of his trusty sidekick - a dog named Trixie.
"It was an especially rewarding experience to be able to give another dimension to my father's stories," noted Ms. Morris, whose dad is now 97 years old. "To be able to recount his acts of heroism, his feelings, his innermost thoughts, and give a voice to Trixie is something I will always cherish."
At the event, which is free to all Veterans, Ms. Morris will share an excerpt of the book and open up the forum for discussion.
In addition, Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue, Inc., a non-profit, no kill animal rescue based on Staten Island, will co-sponsor the event and host an "adopt don't shop" event, matching interested Veterans with adoptable dogs and cats who are currently awaiting their forever homes.
