Baz Bamigboye of The Daily Mail has just reported that award-winning actress, Emma Thompson, is set to helm and provide lyrics for a musical stage adaptation of her hit film. Nanny McPhee.
Thompson will collaborate with singer/songwriter Gary Clark, who has signed on to write the score.
According to Baz, the musical is already in development, with a second act workshop planned for this October. He also noted that the show could hit a London stage as soon as the 2019-20 season!
The stories of Nanny McPhee, based on the NURSE MATILDA books by Christianna Brand, were adapted by Thompson for the big screen film, in which she starred opposite Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury and Thomas Sangster in the title role. A sequel was released in 2010.
The story follows widowed undertaker Cedric Brown and his seven, troublemaking children, who are taken under the wing of Nanny McPhee, an ugly "government nanny" who changes their lives -- and magically, in the process, her appearance -- for the better.
