Elizabeth Tryon Comes To Feinstein's in August

Doug Oberhamer is the show's musical director and pianist, Sean Harkness is on guitar, with additional direction by Joel Vig. Ms. Tryon's selections will range from George Gershwin's "Someone to Watch Over Me" to Stephen Sondheim's "Everybody Says Don't" and "Putting it Together" to original songs by Ms. Tryon, one of which was chosen as the soundtrack to a moving tribute video honoring the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, to an opera aria by Donizetti ("Chacun le Sait" from the opera Fille du Regiment).

ELIZABETH TRYON is often described as two singers in one, possessing the "belt" of a top pop singer and the soaring high notes of a classical opera great. In "Where the Music Takes Me", Tryon takes her audience on a humorous and moving musical journey as she segues from original pop songs that she wrote-one of which broke the Top 10 on the FMQB AC National Radio Chart, and another that was chosen as the soundtrack to a moving tribute video honoring the US Armed Forces-to Broadway favorites and classical songs.

Tryon states, "I hope the story I tell in my show will resonate with anyone who has ever had a dream, set out to follow it, and found it taking them to humorous, unexpected and ultimately growth-inducing places. I also hope to perform the gold standards of cabaret and Broadway in the most direct way possible, as well as to introduce some of my original music."

Elizabeth grew up listening to pop and Broadway music and scribbling her own original pop songs. Then when she was ten years old her school music teacher told her she had the potential to become an opera singer and took her to see an opera, which sounded "very strange" to her. Eventually Elizabeth grew to love classical music, attended the prestigious Indiana University School of Music, and now sings professionally - she has performed as the solo vocalist at the premier of the Noah's Ark Suite at the Lighthouse in NYC, as the youngest singer on the Opera Aegean tour of Athens and the Greek Islands, and as a soloist with Opera of the Hamptons and numerous other classical venues - but her pop roots never left her. Elizabeth continued writing and singing pop songs, and her song "Fire Inside"broke the Top 10 on the FMQB AC National Radio Chart, with 2 of her other songs going to #12 on the Chart. Elizabeth's music attracted the attention of pop producers Anthony Resta (Elton John), and Scott Jacoby, who won a Grammy in 2008.

"I've spent a lot of time in both the pop and classical worlds and I value them both very much. I love to present classical music in a fun and relevant way. Pop and classical music actually aren't all that different from each other they both have beautiful melodies ...I love being suspended in the moment and never completely knowing what's coming next during a show."

Doug Oberhamer has been involved in musical theater for over 25 years. He is a well respected Musical Director with credits ranging from Broadway and Off Broadway to National and International Tours. He also works as a composer, arranger, orchestrator, music producer, and vocal coach in New York and abroad. Most recently Doug was the Music Director, Composer and Arranger for the "Reel to Real" for Broadway Asia and the Edinburgh Festival, "I Got Fired" at The Barrow Group Theatre, and The "A**hole in My Head" which recently played at Birdland. Other Music Directing Credits include: "Swing!" (Broadway, National Tour, Japanese Tour, Marriott Lincolnshire), "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (National Tour), "My Vaudeville Man" (The York Theatre, Arr./Orch.), "Wanda's World" (45th Street Theatre), He can be heard as the featured trumpet soloist on the Sony Classics Grammy nominated recording of Swing! (Original Broadway Cast recording).

Sean Harkness recently garnered both the Outstanding Instrumentalist of 2011 Backstage Bistro Award, and a MAC Award [Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabarets] for his New York solo shows. In addition to featuring Sean on the cover of their 2011 product catalog, Walden Guitars is releasing a Sean Harkness Signature 12-string guitar in Europe, Asia, and North America. Along with numerous compilations, TV, and film soundtracks, Mr. Harkness now has five commercial releases as an artist. Each year Sean performs in concert halls around the country with other Windham Hill artists such as Liz Story, Will Ackerman, Barbara Higbie, Jim Brickman,Tuck & Patti, David Arkenstone, and Samite. Mr. Harkness the go-to guitarist for duets and ensemble work with singers from Broadway and television such as Alison Fraser, Susan Egan and Carole Demas. Sean can be seen at Iridium Jazz Club on Broadway in Times Square with Terese Genecco and her Little Big Band on the last Tuesday of every month, the Metropolitan Room, St. Nick's, and Top Of The Rock at Rockefeller Center.

Joel Vig starred on Broadway in "Hairspray" as well as in numerous tours and Off-Broadway shows. He's a much sought after cabaret director and star, having worked with Tammy Grimes, the late Patricia Neal and many others.
