Announced earlier to join the show tonight, Eileen Atkins will not be performing in Doubt this evening. The actress, who is said to be suffering from the flu, will join the production as soon as possible. Originally scheduled to debut on Tuesday, January 10th, Atkins was struck by the flu during rehearsals and has not yet gone on.
New cast members Ron Eldard and Jena Malone, however, began their run with the January 11th matinee. Eldard and Malone--who play Father Flynn and Sister James respectively, are also recovering from the flu.
Cherry Jones, Brían F. O'Byrne and Heather Goldenhersh played their final performance on Sunday, January 8. Original cast member and Tony Award-winner Adriane Lenox will continue in the role of Mrs. Muller.
Doubt is written by John Patrick Shanley, and directed by Doug Hughes. The production was the most honored play of the 2004-2005 season, receiving the 2005 Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, among a number of others. " Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, Doubt is the story of a strong-minded woman faced with a difficult decision. Should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues…even if she's not entirely certain of the truth?," state press notes.Videos
