The Miss New York Organization has announced the addition of The Producers' final Max Bialystock, John Treacy Egan (also co-starring in Disney's upcoming The Little Mermaid), award-winning composer Brian Lowdermilk (Henry and Mudge, The Woman Upstairs), cello-playing quadruple threat Fred Rose (Company, Cabaret), and Broadway star Jim Walton (The Music Man, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along) to the starry list of performers for Concert for the Crown.
Egan, Lowdermilk, Rose, and Walton will join previously-announced Broadway regulars in Concert for the Crown, a scholarship fundraiser for the Miss New York Organization and Miss America's national charity, The Children's Miracle Network. The nonprofit Miss America Organization is the world's largest provider of scholarships to women. Last year, it made available more than $45 million in scholarship assistance. The concert will take place Monday, May 21st, 2007 at Joe's Pub at 7 p.m.
Kate Shindle (Legally Blonde, Cabaret) has more than a philanthropic connection to this event, as she was also selected Miss America 1998. Another Miss America, 1981's Susan Powell (NYCO's Sweeney Todd, Home Matters) will be joining her. Shindle's Legally Blonde castmates Nikki Snelson and Natalie Joy Johnson have graciously agreed to perform on their night off. The evening will also feature performances from other members of the Miss America and Broadway "family", Tiffany Haas (Wicked, Miss Ohio 2002), Whitney Kirk (Theatreworks' Henry and Mudge, Miss Arkansas 2003) Christina Ellington Pares (Miss New York 2004) and Bethlene Pancoast (Miss New York 2006).
But as an equal opportunity fund-raiser, look for some inspiring performances at Concert for the Crown from the men who will be onstage that evening: Rob Evan (Tarzan, Jekyll & Hyde), Matt Castle (Company), Darryl Winslow (Evil Dead: The Musical), and the always hysterically funny Kilty Reidy (The Drowsy Chaperone). The evening will be directed by Jen Bender (The Lion King, Avenue Q), with musical direction by Castle.
More performers are expected to be announced closer to the event. People are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance as this event sells out annually.
