Edward Albee Honored at SAGE Awards, November 13

SAGE, Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders, has announced that it will honor Edward Albee at their 10th Annual SAGE Awards Benefit Reception and Dinner on November 13 from 6-10 PM. The event will also honor, JPMorgan Chase, The New York Community Trust and Jennifer Hatch., and will be held at The Ritz-Carlton, New York, Battery Park, Two West Street, just north of Battery Park and directly off of the West Side Highway.

The evening's program will include tributes by Terrence McNally and Elizabeth Ireland McCann and participation by Marian Seldes, Elaine Stritch, Brian Murray and other special guests.

SAGE Awards are presented each year to individuals, organizations, and companies who have made significant contributions and thereby enriched the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) persons, particularly the senior and elder members of the GLBT community.

The 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award is being presented to Edward Albee, the renowned playwright who has received the Tony Award twice (not including a recent Lifetime Achievement Tony) and the Pulitzer Prize three times. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild Council and was awarded the Gold Medal in Drama from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. In 1996 Albee received the Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts; in 2005. His plays include Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, A Delicate Balance, Tiny Alice, Three Tall Women, The Play About the Baby and Seascape, which will soon receive a Broadway revival.

SAGE is also honoring JPMorgan Chase with the SAGE Corporate Responsibility Award for its outstanding leadership in diversity efforts in the corporate workplace and its long time support of the GLBT community, including SAGE, in the New York metropolitan area and in the nation.

New York Community Trust is being presented with the 2005 SAGE Award. Twenty-five years ago The New York Community Trust provided SAGE with its very first grant enabling SAGE to hire its first staff person. Thanks to the continuing support of The Trust, SAGE has grown to become the nation's largest organization solely dedicated to serving the needs of the senior gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people.

The SAGE Community Service Award will be presented to Jennifer Hatch for her pioneering work helping same-sex couples navigate the legal and tax world that often treats them so differently from married couples.

Tickets for the event are $350 each, and sponsorship packages are available from $500 to $25,000. Proceeds from this event will support the work and programs of SAGE.
