According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eddie Redmayne has joined the cast of James Marsh's THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING about famed physicist Stephen Hawking. The actor joins FeliciTy Jones on the project from Working Title Films.
Written by Anthony McCarten and inspired by the Jane Hawking's memoir Travelling to Infinity: My life with Stephen, the film is described as a "love story between the Cambridge cosmology student and Jane Wilde, the arts student he fell in love with at University in the 1960s."
With a diagnosis of a fatal illnes at age 21, Wilde's love inspired Hawkings to become what many consider "the successor to Einstein".
Redmayne and Jones join previously announced cast members David Thewlis (The Fifth Estate), Emily Watson (Anna Karenina), Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire), Simon McBurney (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Maxine Peake (The Village) and Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones). Filming is scheduled to begin on location in Cambridge and at other locations throughout the U.K.
Redmayne, who last starred as Marius in Tom Hooper's film adaptation of the musical Les Miserables, won a Tony Award for RED on Broadway in 2010.
His past film credits include My Week with Marilyn, Hick, Black Death, Glorious 39, Powder Blue, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Yellow Hankerchief, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Good Shepherd, and more. He has also appeared on television in The Pillars of the Earth and Tess of the D'Urbervilles.
