A Proper Place, a new musical based on J.M. Barrie's 1902 play The Admirable Crichton, will be presented in two exclusive performances to a room full of invitation-only theatre enthusiasts and industry professionals in New York City today, September 17, 2013.
A Proper Place, written by Leslie Becker (Book, Lyrics) and Curtis Rhodes (Book, Music, Additional Lyrics), is set in Mayfair, England in 1902, and is the story of an upper class British family that gets shipwrecked on an island with only their butler to help them survive. The musical fantasy, dubbed a "cross between Downton Abbey and Gilligan's Island," is a classic tale of equality, survival and forbidden love. "This is a true 'book musical' in the best sense," says Rhodes. "Although the play itself was written at the very beginning of the 20th Century, it has many themes that are just as relevant and intriguing for a 21st Century audience - perfect source material for a musical adaptation. I think when audiences see our show, they will not only be captivated, but also moved by the piece's engaging characters, romantic story and sweeping score."Videos
