The East Hampton Library has announced a donation of $250,000 from the Alec Baldwin Foundation to support the construction of the Library's new Children's Addition.

Mr. Baldwin's donation originates from the proceeds of his advertising campaign for Capital One Bank's Venture Rewards credit card. He has earmarked all of the proceeds from the promotion to the funding of arts and cultural organizations.

An active supporter of the East Hampton Library, Mr. Baldwin serves as Honorary Co-Chair of the East Hampton Library's Children's Addition Committee and is the Co-Founding Chair of the library's popular annual Authors Night fundraising event.

The new addition, designed by noted architect Robert A.M Stern, will add more than 2,000 square feet to the existing Children's Room, allowing for the addition of 10,000 more children's books, new computers, seating, and other age-appropriate improvements. The new addition will also allow for the installation of a second elevator, making the entire library handicapped accessible, and provide 16 new parking spaces. Construction on the Children's Addition will begin in spring 2012, with an anticipated completion date of late spring 2013.

This is the second donation from Mr. Baldwin for the Children's Addition; he previously donated $25,000 to the East Hampton Library for the funding of the new addition in spring 2010. Mr. Baldwin announced his intentions to provide the additional $250,000 donation to Tom Twomey, Chairman of the East Hampton Library's Board of Managers, at the library's August 13th Authors Night event.

"Over the last several years, Alec has been a tremendous supporter of the East Hampton Library," says East Hampton Library Executive Director Dennis Fabiszak. "We greatly appreciate this generous donation for the library's Children's Addition, which will enable us in our ongoing mission to continue to provide outstanding library services to the East Hampton community."
