A celebration of New York City's great cabaret, comedy, and jazz clubs, the Nightlife Awards features performances from the absolute best of New York City's nightclub performers. More than two dozen critics and experts will vote on the best performances of the year -- and the winners, rather than make acceptance speeches, will perform to show why they were chosen.
The Nightlife Awards is the only broad-based critics' award show honoring our great city's nightlife, and it's the only award show in the world that is PURE ENTERTAINMENT! There will be more than twenty live cabaret, comedy and jazz performances on the stage of Town Hall, performed by the most talented club performers in New York (and, therefore, the world). The winners will be presented to the audience by a glittering array of celebrities from Hollywood, Television, and Broadway, some of whom will also perform!
Now in its fourth year, the 2006 Nightlife Awards are sure to dazzle. It has been called "A joy to behold" by Variety; "An epic night of grand entertainment" by American Theater Web; "A year's worth of entertainment dished up in one big banquet" by Curtain Up; and "An avalanche of entertainment" by the Wolf Entertainment Guide.
The Nightlife Awards is conceived and produced by author/critic Scott Siegel, who, in just five years, has created Town Hall's popular and critically acclaimed Broadway by the Year series, established the annual smash sellouts called Broadway Unplugged, and just recently won new acclaim from the NY Times for creating, writing, and hosting Town Hall's First Annual Broadway Cabaret Festival. Stephen Holden of The Times wrote, "Mr. Siegel is an imaginative producer whose swift, exciting programs don't waste a minute."
Last year's sold-out Nightlife Awards concert featured appearances by Keely Smith, Tony Danza, Patti LuPone, Joy Behar, Mark Murphy, Karen Akers, Andy Bey, Liz and Ann Hampton Callaway, Joe Lovano Quartet, Alice Ripley, Kate Clinton, Jim Caruso, Paula West, Patrice O'Neal and many others! It was hosted by the incomparable Bruce Vilanch.
The 2006 Nightlife Awards is sponsored, in part, by TheaterMania.com, Edythe Kenner, Jill & Irwin Cohen, Edith & Ervin Drake, Peter & Barbara Leavy, Thoroughbred Records, and more soon to be announced.
