The premiere production of EVERYDAY EDNA MAE will open in New York on Wednesday, February 18, presented by FRIGID New York in a production from Bricken and Birch.
An all-female theatrical production like EVERYDAY EDNA MAE is rare, but the story of a woman's struggle to attain her dream is anything but uncommon. This 60-minute play by playwright Robin Rice Lichtig is directed by Bricken Sparacino and features a cast of four Equity actors: Heather McAllister, Annie McGovern, Alison Saltz and Jenny Vallancourt.
Young Edna Mae yearns to be an artist, but she is plagued by body issues, surroundings that demand conformity, and a husband who considers painting the walls of his man cave more essential than creating on a canvas. Edna Mae is so shut off from what her heart desires, color literally seeps from her world. When middle-aged Edna Mae escapes her crushing life for a week, her dream once again glimmers on the horizon. The often humorous story plays out in various Starbucks, from fictional Mission Creek, Ohio, to San Diego, California, where Edna Mae may finally find what she needs.
EVERYDAY EDNA MAE will be onstage in the FRIGID Festival on February 18 (at 5:30), February 21 (3:50), February 24 (5:30), February 27 (7:10) and March 1 (6:30). Tickets: $16 ($12 for seniors, students, military). Advance tickets: www.FRIGIDnewyork.info or in person at 85 E. 4th Street, Manhattan.
