EMMYS COVERAGE 2013: BWW Salutes Stage & Screen Star Elaine Stritch

In anticipation of the live 65th Annual Emmy Award broadcast on CBS this Sunday, BWW will be spotlighting the Emmy nominated TV performances of some of Broadway's biggest stars. Today, we take a look back at Elaine Stritch's legendary career, including her 2013 Emmy nomination for playing Colleen Donaghy on NBC's 30 ROCK.

A previous Emmy-winner three times over; for her 1993 guest apperance on LAW & ORDER, in 2004 for the broadcast of her one-woman show Elaine Stritch: AT LIBERTY, and for her role as Alec Baldwin's mother on 30 Rock in 2007; Stritch has eight nominations in all, including five for her spots on 30 ROCK.

A four-time Tony nominee and three-time Drama Desk winner, Stritch has been in 19 Broadway shows since her debut in 1946's LOCO, creating and reviving classic roles in PAL JOEY, BUS STOP, COMPANY, and SHOW BOAT, to name a few. Most recently she starred opposite Bernadette Peters in 2011 in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.

A renowned cabaret performer, with devoted celebrity admirers, earlier this year the 88-year-old Stritch announced that she was leaving her beloved New York to return to her childhood home of Michigan.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast will air live coast-to-coast on Sunday, September 22nd (8 PM ET/5 PM PT) on CBS from the NOKIA Theater L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. And be sure to visit BWW TVWorld for live coverage of the 2013 Primetime EMMY AWARDS.

Below, check out four clips of this Musical Theatre icon in her element. The first is Stritch on 30 Rock with fellow Emmy nominees Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. Next is Stritch telling a story, as only she can, on an early episode of ELLEN. Then, in a rare public television broadcast, she recreates her legendary performance of "The Ladies Who Lunch" from the Sondheim classic COMPANY. In the final video she is performing one of her signature songs, "Broadway Baby" from, another Sondheim classic, FOLLIES, this time at the White House.
