Improv troupe, EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH (
www.eightimprov.biz), is offering Comedy Classes for Kids and Teens at the Broadway
Comedy Club (318 West 53rd St, New York, NY 10019). Saturdays in June (9, 16, 23, and 30) students will learn to play classic theater games as well as write and perform original stand-up comedy routines. Tickets for the classes ($20/week or $60/month) are available via
Ovationtix (866-811-4111).
Not only an amazing cultural arts experience, comedy classes are the coolest way to get your child excited about creative writing and thinking. The very first class is all about brainstorming ideas and observing our world. By the end of the four weeks, each student will have outlined and drafted a stand-up comedy routine. The weekly Improv exercises further develop creativity and train students communication (public speaking, listening, eye contact and focus), team and leadership skills. Students that complete the four-week program will be invited to a final dress rehearsal (12-2pm) and performance (3pm) on July 1.
Not only are these classes a must for the future stars of the family, all children benefit from the valuable life skills. And these programs fill a gap left by a public schools system that is not only removing the arts programming, but offering less and less public speaking skills training. These classes prepare students for a successful social and professional life. Teacher, Walt Frasier, promotes his mantra, “BIG VOICES / BIG CHOICES”. Take risks. Don’t fear failure. Repeat successes, learn from mistakes and continually grow.
Mr. Frasier is the Artistic Director of EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH (AKA LMAOff-Broadway and Improv 4 Kids) as well as Director of Instruction for the Comedy Hall Of Fame Foundation. 1000s of students participate in EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH workshops and classes every year. This past year over 200 NYC students were eligible for high school credit (English Elective) via the Comedy Hall of Fame programs. Many students from the program, now in NYC schools since 2009, now participate in paid internships with both EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH and the COMEDY HALL OF FAME. More info at
