The TKTS Ticket Booth in Times Square's Duffy Square--a New York theatre institution that has offered theatregoers same-day discount tickets for 32 years--will temporarily move into the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel on May 1st as the new Duffy Square booth undergoes construction.
The Marriot Marquis is located one block south of Duffy Square's TKTS. Construction is soon to begin on the new, improved Duffy Square booth, while its famous signs will be taken down starting this weekend (during which business there will be continued as usual). Signs will guide ticketbuyers to the temporary booth. The new Duffy Square booth is expected to be operational by early winter.
According to a letter sent out by the Theatre Development Fund (which created the famed discount booth), TKTS "will move into a temporary home in the kiosk mid-block on the ground level of the Marriott Marquis...The proximity of the temporary site to the permanent site means that
with adequate signage we should be able to redirect customers easily. There is a great deal
of space for the lines and we will be able to increase windows to move
them quickly."
TDF also states that the passing out of flyers will be prohibited as the Marriot Marquis is private property. Marketers of shows, however, may verbally promote plays and musicals to customers if they register with TDF.
Once completed, the new Duffy Square booth will offer two additional windows as well as a fully accessible window for ticket-buyers with disabilities. The TKTS booth is located between Broadway and Seventh Avenue, and ends at 47th Street. The Marriot Marquis Hotel is located at 1535 Broadway.
A secondary booth is located downtown at South Street Seaport (at the corner of Front and John Streets). For more information on TDF and TKTS, visit
