Four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein has declared, "We seem to be morphing into a cult show for women over forty.  So why not accommodate them by adding another matinee?  You want to see our show?  We'll make sure you can.  We love our audience and they love us!"

Therefore, to accommodate the demand for afternoon performances, the new Broadway musical A Catered Affair has changed its weekly playing schedule by adding a fourth matinee, it was announced today by producer Jordan Roth.  Beginning July 3, a 2:00 p.m. Thursday matinee will replace the current Wednesday 8:00 p.m. performance.  A Catered Affair will now be offering an unusual number - half - of its performances in the afternoon at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street).

Since performances of the Harvey Fierstein /John Bucchino musical began on March 25, all matinees have played to no less than 95% capacity.  According to Fierstein, "We know who our audience is and they love the show.  We have sold out our matinees practically from day one.  We have a show that treats the subject of marriage and family in a funny and heartbreaking way not to be found in any other show around and the matinee ladies, the backbone of Broadway, have found their way to our theater, hankies in hand, and are seeing the show time and time again.  It's amazing."

The new performance schedule for A Catered Affair will be Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  This schedule is effective starting the first week in July.

The production stars Tony Award-winner Faith Prince (also nominated for a 2008 Tony for Best Actress in a Musical) as 'Aggie Hurley,' the mother- of-the-bride, Tony Award-nominee Tom Wopat (2008 Best Actor in a Musical) as 'Tom Hurley,' the father-of-the-bride, Harvey Fierstein as 'Winston,' the uncle-of-the-bride, Leslie Kritzer as 'Jane Hurley,' the bride-to-be and Matt Cavenaugh as 'Ralph Halloran,' the groom-to-be.  The featured cast includes Philip Hoffman, Katie Klaus, HEATHER MAC RAE, Lori Wilner and Kristine Zbornik.  The John Doyle directed production recently won the 2008 Drama League Award for Best Musical.  Jonathan Tunick, who created the show's orchestrations, was also nominated for a 2008 Tony Award for his work.

A Catered Affair is produced on Broadway by Jujamcyn Theaters, Jordan Roth, Harvey Entertainment/Ron Fierstein, Richie Jackson, Daryl Roth, John O'Boyle/Ricky Stevens/Davis-Tolentino, Barbra Russell/Ron Sharpe in association with the Frankel-Baruch-Viertel-Routh Group, Broadway Across America, True Love Productions, Rick Steiner/Mayerson-Bell-Staton-Osher Group, Jan Kallish, Stacey Mindich and Rhoda Mayerson.  The musical is based on the Turner Entertainment motion picture distributed by Warner Brothers and written by Gore Vidal, and the original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky.

Tickets are priced at $29.50 - $119.50 and are available through Telecharge at 212-239-6200 or by visiting www.telecharge.com.
