Dream Project Offers Calderón-Based Staged Readings

FLUX Theatre Ensemble will present The Dream Project, an exploration of Pedro Calderón de la Barca's La Vida es Sueño through a series of staged readings of adaptations of Calderón's masterpiece. The Dream Project culminates in the fully-staged production of Life is a Dream, translation by John Clifford, directed by Kelly O'Donnell, June 8-24, 2007. The reading series illuminates themes of fate and free will, parents and children, reality and illusion.

The Dream Project, according to press notes, includes the following:

Wake to Dream, by August Schulenburg
"A futuristic exploration of the nature of love and reality"

Sueño, by Jose Rivera
"A sharp and raw deconstruction of the Calderón classic"

Dreamlandia, by Octavio Solis
"A supernatural look at drugs and border culture on the Rio Grande"
Directed by Melissa Fendell

The Dream Chain
An adaptation of La Vida es Sueño written by multiple authors, each writing only one scene from the play. Contributing playwrights include: Sheila Callaghan, Marcus Gardley, Amlin Gray, Carmen Rivera, Adam Szymkowicz and Candido Tirado Director TBD
