Drama Desk's Conversation with Stoppard Set for 1/8

Internationally acclaimed playwright Tom Stoppard, whose The Coast of Utopia trilogy (Voyage, Shipwreck, Salvage) is currently at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center, will talk about his stage work and his career at a special Drama Desk event at Tony's DiNapoli Restaurant, 147 West 43rd Street, on Monday, January 8, 2007. There will be a buffet dinner from 5 to 6 PM followed by a discussion from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.

The co-hosts for "A Conversation with Tom Stoppard" will be Drama Desk President William Wolf (wolfentertainmentguide.com) and Drama Desk member Margaret Croyden (NYTheater-Wire.com), author of Conversations with Peter Brook 1970 – 2000 (Farrar, Straus & Giroux).

Admission (dinner included) is $25 for members and $45 for guests (cash or check). Space is limited and those wishing to attend are encouraged to make reservations early by e-mailing wolf@wolfentertainmentguide.com.

Directed by multi-Drama Desk Award winner Jack O'Brien, and presented by Lincoln Center Theater (André Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer), the American premiere of Voyage, the first play of Stoppard's three-part epic to open so far, has received enthusiastic reviews from New York critics.

At the event, the first of several panel discussions to be presented by the Drama Desk during the 2006/2007 theater season, Stoppard will be interviewed by Wolf and Croyden and will also answer questions from those in attendance.

The Drama Desk is a non-profit organization of professional writers, critics and editors who regularly cover the New York theater scene, including Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway and not-for-profit theater. Each year, the organization celebrates excellence in the theater at its annual awards ceremony. This year, the 52nd Annual Drama Desk Awards will take place on May 20, at 9:00 PM at the LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center.
