The Lobbyists - an "undeniably talented" (Village Voice) group of actor-musicians Tommy Crawford, Eloïse Eonnet, Alex Grubbs, Will Turner, Tony Vo, and Douglas Waterbury-Tieman, joined by cellist Raymond Sicam III - composed SeaWife and starred in its sold-out World Premiere engagement at South Street Seaport Museum from June 23-July 26, 2015. A modern theatrical event, SeaWife envelops its audience in the epic journey of Percy, a young sailor bred within the golden age of the American whaling industry, as he searches for a greater glory than killing leviathan. From haunting folk ballads to rhythmic bluegrass melodies, SeaWife's original "enchanting score" (Entertainment Weekly) weaves lush harmonies and folk instrumentation to create a unique acoustic sound. The New York Times raves that The Lobbyists demonstrate "impressive musicianship" through "energetic and alluring" performances in SeaWife's "wildly atmospheric...concatenation of story, marvelous songs, and environment."
The world premiere of SeaWife was presented by the dynamic downtown theater company Naked Angels, and was directed and developed by Liz Carlson with an original book by Seth Moore. In addition to The Lobbyists' 2016 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Music, SeaWife lighting designer Jake DeGroot also received a nomination for Outstanding Lighting Design of a Musical. The 61st Annual Drama Desk Awards will be held on June 5, 2016 at 8:00PM at Town Hall in New York City.
