On Saturday June 5th, 2010, 1pm-5pm, more than thirty youth groups from across the city will come together on East 4th Street between 2nd and Bowery, recently dubbed by the Village Voice as NYC's "Best City Block," to present a multi-stage event of free music, theater, dance, spoken word, and interactive exhibits. A simultaneous free film festival of works by teen artists will be screened indoors at Millenium Film Workshop, 68 East 4th Street.

New York has an extraordinary array of teen artists creating music, dance, theater, visual art, poetry, radio and film whose work is rarely seen in public. The Festival is a unique opportunity to catch a glimpse of their impressive work.

Participating groups include: Downtown Art * The Point/Tribal Stone * The Door/University Settlement * Henry Street Settlement/Urban Youth Theater * Urban Arts Academy * DCTV * City at Peace * NPR's Radio Rookies * Radio Rootz * Teatro El Puente * Young Dancemakers * Reel Works * Rod Rodgers Dance Company * TADA! * The Lower Eastside Girls' Club * Third Street Music Settlement * Community Word Project * Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance * Men Who Shave * East Village Dance Project * Groundswell Community Mural * Smith Street Productions * Young Playwrights * Urban Word * LOVE * Youth Communications * and more.

At the Festival, Downtown Art will also distribute its free NYC Youth Resource Guide to Arts and Leadership Programswhich lists afterschool programs and opportunities for middle and high school age youth.

The Festival will be launched with a special ceremony-- our "Local Hero" Awards, which are being presented to Lisa Kaplan, Chief of Staff for councilwoman Rosie Mendez, and Bruce Morrison, Deutsche Bank, in recognition of their advocacy and support for young people.

Downtown Art works with teens, ages 12-19, to create original theater, music, and performance events and to champion the capacities of young people in a world which often dismisses their contributions.

This project is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. Additional support was received from the Emma Shaefer Charitable Trust and from the Nancy Quinn Fund at ART/New York. Downtown Art is a founding member of Fourth Arts Block (FAB) and the East 4th Street Cultural District.
